There are not many ranks within the prides, but here's the general list:
King:
The King title is gained by either claiming a pride without a leader or by challenging the current king and winning. The king is responsible for protecting the pride from outside forces, making pride decisions, and appointing the lower ranks. Only males may claim prides.
Queen:
The Queen title is gained by being selected by the King. The Queen helps the King in protecting the pride and making important decisions with the King. Should the King become unavailable, die, or be demoted or banished by either the pride or challenging males, the Queen will take over as pride ruler. Because females are generally no good at fighting males, it is highly suggested that she quickly select a male to rule by her side. However, in the case that a challenging lion beats the former King, the victor may or may not allow the Queen to continue leading the pride.
Prince or Princess:
The heirs to the throne, usually kin to the King and Queen.
Deputy:
The Deputy is chosen by the King or Queen of the pride, and organizes Hunting and Fighting parties. He or She also advises the King or Queen in making important decisions, and in the case that the King becomes unavailable, will take over leadership until the heir is old enough to rule.
Warriors:
All the Warriors are males of the pride, training to defend and fight off any intruders. Experienced Warriors take on an apprentice from time to time to help train the future warriors.
Hunters:
The Hunters are all made up of females, and it is them who hunts for the pride to provide the food. Experienced or exceptionally good hunters will take on apprentices from time to time to train the future generation the skillful art of hunting.
Medicine Cat:
The Medicine cat is highly skilled with herbs and plants and the art of healing. This lion can be either male or female and will also take on an apprentice or two.
Elders:
Old lions and lionesses that are pretty much no longer useful to the pride, except for their wisdom.
Rouges:
Rouge Lions live within the Oasis, but thrive under no one's rules and laws but for their own. Rouges often take what they want and are known for their rough and harsh nature. Life as a rouge is hard, especially for males because they're so clumsy at hunting, which is why they can be known to steal lionesses from prides or the flowered valley in order to force them to hunt or bear them cubs.
